If you've been researching hand-tied extensions, you've probably seen the term "beaded row”.
At Welcome & Wanted Hair Bar in Canton, we use this method for all our hand-tied weft
installations. Here's exactly what it means.

What Is a Beaded Row?
A beaded row is the foundation that holds your hand-tied weft extensions in place. Here's how it works:
Section creation: Your stylist sections off a thin, horizontal line of your natural hair
where the row will sit.
Bead placement: Tiny silicone-lined beads are crimped onto small sections of hair
along this line, creating anchor points.
Connection: A thin thread or wire is woven through all the beads, connecting them and
creating a continuous row.
Weft attachment: The hand-tied weft is then sewn onto this beaded row using a needle
and thread technique.
Why Beaded Rows Work So Well
Even weight distribution: The beads distribute the weight of the weft evenly across many
anchor points rather than concentrating it in one spot.
Secure but gentle: The silicone lining inside the beads grips your hair securely without
damaging it.
Adjustable: At move-up appointments, the beads are simply opened and repositioned
higher—your hair slides through easily.
No glue or heat: Unlike fusion or tape methods, beaded rows don't require adhesives or heat
application on your natural hair.
Does It Hurt?
The bead placement process involves slight pressure but should not be painful. You might feel:
●Light tugging as beads are positioned
●Tension as they're crimped closed
●Awareness of the row for the first day or two
If anything is truly painful, tell your stylist immediately—adjustments can be made.
How Many Rows Will I Have?
Most clients have 1-3 rows, depending on their goals:
●1 row: Subtle volume and length
●2 rows: Our most popular option, good length and fullness
●3 rows: Maximum volume and length
Your stylist determines optimal placement during consultation.
Where Are Rows Placed?
Rows are strategically placed where:
●They'll be hidden by your natural hair
●Your hair is dense enough to support them
●They won't interfere with your typical hairstyles
Common placements include the occipital bone (back of head curve) and just above the nape.
Caring for Your Beaded Rows
●Brush gently around rows - never rip through them
●Avoid heavy products near beads - can cause slippage
●Keep move-up appointments - rows need repositioning every 6-10 weeks
●Don't try to remove them yourself - come to us
The Bottom Line
Beaded row installation is gentle, secure, and allows for beautiful, natural-looking results. It's
one of the main reasons we love hand-tied wefts.
