Can You Sleep Comfortably With Hair Extensions?

"Will I be able to sleep comfortably?" It's one of the top questions we hear from clients
considering extensions at Welcome & Wanted Hair Bar. The honest answer: yes, especially with hand-tied wefts—but there are some best practices to follow.

Why Hand-Tied Wefts Are Comfortable for Sleep
The lightweight construction of hand-tied wefts makes a huge difference at bedtime:
●No bulky bumps: Unlike thicker extension methods, hand-tied wefts lay flat, so you're
not sleeping on lumps
●Minimal tension: Properly installed rows don't pull or create pressure points
●Natural feel: Most clients forget they're wearing extensions within days
The First Few Nights
Be patient with yourself during the adjustment period:
●Days 1-3: You might notice the extensions more than usual. Your scalp is adjusting to
new weight, and you're hyper-aware. This is normal.
●Week 2+: Sleeping feels completely normal.
●If discomfort persists beyond a week, contact your stylist—something may need adjusting.
How to Sleep With Extensions
Always secure your hair: Never sleep with loose extensions. The movement during sleep
creates tangles that are hard to remove and can stress both your extensions and natural hair.
Best sleeping styles:
●Low, loose ponytail with silk scrunchie
●Single loose braid
●Two loose braids
●Low, loose bun
Avoid:
●High ponytails (can pull on rows)
●Tight braids or buns (causes tension)
●Regular elastic bands (cause breakage)
Upgrade your pillowcase: Silk or satin pillowcases reduce friction, preventing tangles and
frizz. This one upgrade makes a noticeable difference.
Morning Routine
When you wake up:
Remove your scrunchie or undo your braid
Gently finger-comb through any tangles
Use your loop brush to fully detangle, starting at ends
4. Style as usual
Never rip through tangles—always work them out gently.
What If I'm a Restless Sleeper?
Even clients who toss and turn do fine with extensions! The key is securing your hair before
bed. The protective style keeps everything contained regardless of how much you move.
Traveling and Sleeping
Traveling doesn't change much:
●Pack your silk scrunchie and loop brush
●Braid or secure hair before flights or long car rides too
●Don't skip brushing just because you're out of routine
