I-Tip Extensions: The Bead Method Explained
I-tip extensions are one of the most underrated extension methods out there — no heat bonding, no adhesive, just a small metal bead clamped onto your natural hair. They're incredibly natural-feeling and a great option for the right candidate. Here's how they work.

What Are I-Tip Extensions?
I-tip extensions are individual hair strands with a small metal tip. Your stylist threads a small section of your natural hair through a micro bead, inserts the i-tip extension, and clamps the bead shut — securing the extension without any heat or adhesive.
Because there's no glue or keratin involved, i-tips are considered one of the most gentle extension methods available. They're also completely reusable — when you come in for maintenance, the beads are opened, the extensions are slid up (or replaced), and everything is re-clamped.
How Long Do I-Tip Extensions Last?
The extensions themselves can last 12+ months with proper care. Maintenance appointments — where your stylist moves the beads up as your natural hair grows — are needed every 6-8 weeks. At each maintenance visit, we also check the condition of the extension hair and replace any strands that are showing wear.
I-Tips vs. K-Tips vs. Wefts
I-tip: no heat or adhesive; individual strands; best for medium to thick hair; very reusable
K-tip: keratin bond; individual strands; best for fine to medium hair; requires bond remover
Hand-tied weft: beaded rows; full wefts; best for dramatic length and volume; most versatile
Who Are I-Tips Best For?
Clients with medium to thick hair density
Anyone who wants a heat-free and adhesive-free installation
People looking for a long-lasting method with reusable hair
Clients who've had sensitivity to glue or keratin bonds in the past
Summer Advantage
Summer is actually a great time to install i-tips. Since there's no adhesive, you don't need to worry about heat or sweat loosening a bond. The beads are completely stable in heat and humidity — one of the reasons i-tips are popular with active clients and people who spend a lot of time outdoors.
